The year is almost over! Reflect back over this past year, and write about the best thing that happened in fourth grade. Make sure to write at least 5 sentences about it!

End of the Year Poem- Homework

We've been working on poetry in class. Take a few minutes to compose a poem about something related to this school year. It can be about things we've learned, different events we've done, how you've grown as a person, etc. It can be any style of poem, at least five lines long, and does not have to rhyme (although it can if you want). Memorial Day- Homework


The last Monday of May is Memorial Day in the United States. On this day, Americans remember and honor the brave men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. Military.
What makes someone a hero? Write a paragraph explaining what a hero is to you and how an individual becomes a hero. 

BizTown- Homework

We had a great day at Biztown. You got to be adults with real jobs, breaks, and the ability to shop where you wanted. In at least five sentences, write a letter to next year's fourth graders about BizTown. Explain what BizTown is, give them advice, tell them what you liked best, what you learned, etc.

Mother's Day- Homework

We just celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday. Use the topic sentence, "My mom is the best mom in the world," and write a persuasive paragraph convincing us why that is true.

April Fools' Day is observed on April 1 and is sometimes referred to as All Fools' Day. On this day, people play harmless pranks on others or try to get them to believe ridiculous things.

New State Law- Homework

If you could create a new state law, what would it be? Why would it be a good law?

Iditarod- Homework

Read Across America- Homework

Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2 and it is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that celebrates the importance of reading. This date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of a famous children’s author, Dr. Seuss. Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Seuss is one of the most beloved children’s book authors of all time.

In honor of Read Across America Day, Mrs. Kline has planned all sorts of fun activities for us on Friday (including a special visit from author, Kim Baker).

In your response, explain why it is important to read. How is reading helpful, how can it be fun, why do we learn to read? What is a favorite book you've read lately? Why did you enjoy it?

National Inventor's Day- Homework


February 11th- National Inventor's Day

In recognition of the great contributions that inventors have made to the world, National Inventors Day is celebrated on February 11. This date was chosen because Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847. Thomas Edison was an American inventor, scientist, and businessman and is known as one of the most prolific inventors of all time. Edison invented more than 1,200 items, including the light bulb and phonograph.

What do you think is the most important invention of all time? Why? (Remember to write at least 5 thoughtful sentences.)

I Have A Dream- Homework


Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is best known for being a prominent leader in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world, using nonviolent methods.

In 1955, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the Montgomery Bus Boycott and in 1957 he helped to found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech and established his reputation as one of the greatest speakers in American history.

In 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and discrimination through civil disobedience and other nonviolent means. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Beginning with the words "I Have a Dream," write your own speech about your hopes for our world and its people. Your speech should be at least 5 great, thoughtful sentences.
