Talk to your parents about any glaciers they've seen in real life or know about. Dicuss what they looked like and how that glacier was shaping the land around and beneath it. Write about where the glacier was, how big it was, and any other details your parents can describe about it. If your parents haven't ever seen glaciers in real life, do some research, look up a glacier and tell us about it.

I think glaciers are formed by lots of snow. And can be any size. They are huge blocks of ice. Thay move so slow. That is what I think glaciers are like.
Glaciers are formed when snow falls more than melts, then the snow piles up alot. at the bottom of all the snow it starts to melt then turns in to somesort of "putty". When the "putty" slides down hill the snow goes with it and by now the snow is ice and that is how a glacier is formed. Glaciers move very slowly so dont be scared that one might run you over. Also glaciers can be up to 3 miles tall to 1 meter tall is that crazy or what? i mean 3 MILES! How is that possible? Well anyway hope you liked my blog.

Our family saw 2 glaciers in Alaska. One of the glaciers had water coming out of it! Another glacier had bits of ice falling off. Both of the glaciers were very very cold! I think glaciers are cool.
My parents saw glaciers in Mount Baker and in Mount Rainier. Onewas sloping down a mountain and ending in a pool of ice. The other one was spiralling into a big hole. Both of the glaciers were really big and very cold.
My mom saw a blue glacier in Alaska. Blue ice is more commonly known as "old ice". The glacier was in Denali national park. My dad and brother have also skied on the glacier in Whistler BC. It also stays cold all year round.
Since my mom has not seen a glacier, I researched and think glaciers are big blocks of ice in the water that move very slowly. Also the ice gets sediment on the glacier so that weighs it down. Just like ice cubes water freezes from low tempeture. That's my opinion of what glaciers are.
my parents have not seen a glacier before.but i looked up glaciers and they have sedament. so if ice starts to fall it takes things with it like mud or tress and at the end then it makes a u shape.

My parents saw some glaciers once and my mom described the one she saw as big,cold,and grey from the carbons in the earth.My dad described the one he saw as blueish.
I see a glacier every time I go to Whistler. It's really white, shiny , and it's kind of transparent on the top half. On the bottom half it's dirty and translucent. That's the glacier I see in Whistler.
Glaciers are big mounds of compressed snow and ice. When glaciers get compressed, the bottom layers turn liquidy. Because of this, the glacier moves! It only moves a couple centimeters a day, but it still moves. When it moves, it caries pieces of sediment, sometimes even trees! When the glacier melts, it deposits the things it's been carrying in a new location. This is called deposition. Also, when the glacier moves, it creates big valleys. And that,s not even the half of it.
We took a cruise to Alaska in 2005. My dad took a helicopter and he was standing in the middle of a glacier. One of my parents saw a glaicier called Steingletscher. In fact, he didn't just see it, he went inside it! After he got inside, he ice-climbed out of the huge cracks in the glaicier. The huge cracks are called crevases. This glacier is very big.
When my family went to Alaska we went to Glacier Bay on a fishing boat. We saw a huge glacier calving it sounded like a thunder storm! Soon we saw a huge chunk of the glacier fall into the bay with a huge splash. While we were there we saw Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska. It's about 12 miles long!
Me and my family has seen a glacier when we went on a cruise to Alaska couple times one in 2007 & another in 2010.Infact we went through the glacier.Glaciers are different shapes and sizes.They are formed when the water turns into ice due to cold weather.It was fun to see the glacier and also it was a wonderful experience!
My family has never seen a glacier before but My Mom and I researched it and found things things that we heard about like, glaciers are the the largest reservoirs of fresh water mad most glaciers in the world are located in Antartica. You can tell if a glacier is dense by looking at it's color. If the glacier is blue then it is dense.
My Mom thought we should find something different that was an unusual or fun fact about glaciers. We found out that small insects are blown there by the wind, some algae survive and Lemmings would rather play in the rocks and soil between the glaciers, not jump off of them like in the movie " Ice Age". :-)
I have never seen a glacier in my life! I almost did a couple of years ago when my family went on a trip to British Columbia and Alberta. First there were wildfires in BC, and it took us longer than planned to get to Alberta, and then it rained so much that we did not have time to go see the glaciers in Jasper National Park. But my parents have seen glaciers before. My mom has seen them in France, in the Alps, near the town of Chamonix, where the Mont Blanc is located (it is taller than Mount Rainier!). She said glaciers are formed when the snow turns to ice because not enough of it melts and goes down the mountain into the rivers. So the ice can stay there for hundreds, even thousands of years. Ice is called "glace" in French, which means "frozen", so that is where the word glacier comes from (snow gets frozen and turns to ice). My dad has seen them too but not until he was a teenager because he lived in Arizona, and there are no glaciers there. Before I was born, my parents went to see glaciers not too far from here. They even walked inside the glacier, and it was blue and grey, and very cold! It is not allowed to walk under there anymore because of accidents that have happened when part of the glacier fell on top of people and they got hurt. I really hope to see some glaciers soon, it sounds amazing! But my dad said that because the temperature of the earth is slowly rising, the glaciers are melting faster and faster. It is sad because they look beautiful!
While I was looking up glaciers I came apon the word crevasse. So Ilooked it up and the meaning was: A crevasse is a deep crack in an ice sheet or glacier.Crevasses form as a result of the movement and resulting stress associated with the sheer stress generated when two semi-rigid pieces above a plastic substrate have different rates of movement.
I think the word crevasse is an intersting word and would like to know more about it.
I've seen a glacier on a tour in montana.It was like a river of ice coming down from the mountains.It had shaped the land by making some sort of a half pipe that is pointing down.It was blue and white from the reflection of the sun.It was a awesome experience to see such a big glacier.
My mom told me she saw a glacier at Lake Louise. She also noted that she had no idea how big it was she just knew it was HUGANTICLY HUGANTIC. Another thing Mom mentioned was that it was melting on the edges but it wasn't as slippery as she expected ice to be. About that whole HUGANTIC thing she said that the glacier was so big that she couldn't see how the glacier was shaping the land.
My dad said that he has seen lots of glaciers. He told me that the glaciers he saw looked like a 'sea of frozen ice' and that it looked like it almost had waves. Also my dad said that it was super steep and that it seemed like the glacier had stripes from where it broke apart going downhill. And he told me that all the glaciers he has seen have looked all blue and he that to him it looked like someone poured a huge bottle of blue food coloring on them. My dad forgot where he saw all of the glaciers though but he did say that all the glaciers were huge! That's all my dad said about the glaciers he saw and my mom hasn't seen any.
